CORNISH Moo, a local milk supplier from Launceston, set up a donation point to collect essential items for the people in Ukraine.
Gemma Smale-Rowland, owner of Cornish Moo, announced that the Cornish Moo shop would be opening for donations on Tuesday, March 1 and the items would be organised, transported and sent to the fleeing refugees at the Ukrainian border. Sleeping bags, tents, first aid kits, feminine products, baby items, blankets, toys for children, dry and tinned food, clothes and water bottles were all on the list of items needed, and soon enough local people and businesses came together to offer their support.
On Friday, March 5, only four days later, the first shipment was ready to go. With help from volunteers, local business, and local people, RGB building supplies was able to fill one of their lorries to take to Poland.
Gemma said: “All this support restores your faith in humanity in a time of need”
Local business such as Homleigh garden centre, who loaned a van for the donations and West Gate Deli who dropped off donations made to their shop got involved too. Gemma and her team of volunteers were so busy they managed to load three full loads which will be leaving for Ukraine’s border in the next following days.
