BOWOOD Park Golf Club Seniors played five friendly matches in the last month with 3 victories and 2 defeats.

The home match with Falmouth was played in very similar conditions to the away match, with strong winds and heavy rain, but Bowood ran out winners by 61/2-11/2.

The next match was a hard fought home match against Bude with seven of the eight matches going to the 17th or 18th holes before the home side won 5-3. The captain Dick Eagle and partner led the way with a narrow 2 and 1 victory and other winners were: Alan Stockwell and Ken Metcalfe 3 and 1, John Harbinson and Terry Ainsworth 3 and 1 and Steve Steadman and Stuart Harris 4 and 3.

The captain Dick Eagle was disappointed at losing our unbeaten home record to China Fleet 51/2-21/2. The winning pairs for the home club were: Ken Metcalfe and Dave Hutchings, and Bill Trewin and Alec Luckin.

We had a very good game at St Enodoc with the result in doubt until the last match which went to the home side for a 5-3 victory. The following week Bowood convincingly defeated Truro 8-0.

An away day at Downes Crediton Golf Club was enjoyed by the 24 players and the winning team was: John Green, Bob Lemza, Dave Hutchings and Colin Wright on 104 points. The individual winners were: 0-18 h/c Dave Lawton and 19-28 h/c Stan Martin, and nearest the pins were Alan Millson and John Green.

The fourth round of the Eclectic competition was won easily by Dave Dungate on 39 points, 2nd Dave Hutchings and 3rd John Harbinson, 34 points on c/b from John Green.

The leading scores after four rounds are: Bill Trewin, 55, and three players quite a few points behind on 48 are: Dave Dungate, Don Teague and Robert Fry.

Both teams qualified for the Harry Champion Finals at Roserrow in July.
