CALLINGTON Tesco’s community champion Carrie-Ann Bailey recently visited volunteers at the National Coastwatch Institute at Rame Head, to learn more about the facilities and see first-hand how funding from their recent round Bags of Help win will be put to use.
The group of volunteers received £2,000 from the scheme, supported by Groundwork, after coming second in the recent round of in-store customer votes.
The Rame Head station will use the money to fund new radar and camera equipment to help them keep a watchful eye on the surrounding waters, assisting the National Coastguard in keeping users safe.
Carrie said: “On days when visibility is poor, the volunteers can’t see more than a few feet ahead, yet with this new equipment, they will be able to monitor the waters a lot more effectively and keep people safe regardless of the conditions, and that is all down to the public voting for this organisation with their blue tokens at the end of their shop.”
