MEMBERS of Bude Coastguard and Rescue Team recently met with crew at Bude Community Fire Station, in a new aim to create a formal flood plan for the town.

Hosted by Bude Community Fire Station on Monday, January 16, the teams were able to show their water rescue capabilities, allowing them to further understand each team’s response to a water related incidents, their training and use of equipment, should there be a significant flooding incident in the local area.

Through this, it is hoped it will be easier for the teams to work together under the direction of the police, should the situation arise.

This meeting forms part of a greater effort to develop a formal flood plan for Bude and the surrounding area, amongst the local water rescue response teams.

There are plans underway for Bude Coastguard and Rescue Team to take part in joint training exercises with Bude Community Fire Station in due course, although nothing has been formally organised at this time.

On Bude Coastguard and Rescue Team’s Facebook page, a spokesperson said: “We’re extremely grateful to the Bude firefighters for hosting the evening, and look forward to future joint training exercises.”
