Launceston Community Transport Partnership has taken another step towards its first community bus service with the appointment of a co-ordinator for the project.

Les Smith, from Trelash will be spearheading the final preparations during March, and taking the bus to the villages it will serve at the beginning of April.

After a preliminary meeting with Chairman Lavinia Archer, Vice Chairman Paul O'Brian, and Secretary Joan Philp, Les expressed his excitement about the venture.

"It's a slightly smaller concern than London Transport where I worked for 21 years, but no less important for that. Big is not always better as we shall prove. Who knows, Cornwall Community Transport might one day rival London Transport!"

Les is looking forward to meeting all those who have expressed an interest in the Little Red Bus over a cup of tea at the Eagle House Hotel, Launceston from 6pm tonight (Thursday). The management team will also be there to find out what passengers, clubs and volunteers want from the bus and to answer any questions.

Les added: "I am aware that some people won't be able to come to a meeting because they have no transport. Until I am in my office at The Orchard in Launceston, you can get details of the proposed service from the chairman on 01566 772845."
