A MINUTE'S silence was observed before the second team match at Camelford Football Club on Saturday in memory of club president and former player Ray Boundy, who died on Friday.
Ray played football for Camelford, primarily in the 1950s and 1960s. He always recalled the match in which he was the left-back facing the legendary Sir Stanley Matthews in a representative game at St Austell.
Rob Cook, Camelford Football Club treasurer, who played alongside Ray for many years, said: "Ray was told not to tackle Stanley Matthews too hard. They've come to watch Stanley Matthews, not you, they said to him."
Ray played for Cornwall 32 times and in 1963/4 Camelford won the East Cornwall league and cup, when he was club captain.
In paying tribute to his friend, Mr Cook said: "He was a stalwart of the club. I think he attended the annual dinner 50 consecutive years. He played for Camelford his entire career. He was chairman for many, many years and president in later years.
"Ray and his wife, Pam, were club stalwarts. He did everything for the club. When he finished playing he did all the other things behind the scenes. They were dedicated to the football club and to the town."
