FOLLOWING the withdrawal of £4,500 funding by Torridge District Council, an emergency meeting of the trustees of Holsworthy Memorial Ltd on Tuesday, May 14, where it was decided to close the Holsworthy Information Centre (HIC) with immediate effect, writes Christine Williams, Holsworthy correspondent.
Since it was established as part of the refurbished hall when it re-opened in May 2007 the HIC, staffed by a helpful and dedicated team of mostly volunteers, has had a vital role in promoting tourism in the town and area as well as being a source of information and help to the local community.
A notice on the door states that the trustees are in the process of 'restructuring the business' and one of the trustees, Richard Hutchings, said they were actively looking at other ways to keep the office running.
