Doc Martin fan Barbara Elwin knew just where to go on her holiday in North Cornwall. Following in the footsteps of thousands of others, who having seen the programme, had wanted to see where it's filmed, and so headed straight for Port Isaac. What she didn't expect was to find herself not only on set, but up close and personal with the very star of the TV series, actor Martin Clunes. The encounter happened when Barbara, from Aylsham in Norfolk, spotted the cameras and action while picking out the familiar sights in the seaside town. "I suddenly saw Martin Clunes standing on his own and I went straight up to him," said Barbara. "I thought he might be a bit annoyed but he was smashing about it." The moment when Barbara met Doc was captured on camera by husband John. The picture's now taking pride of place in the family album. "I just couldn't believe it," added Barbara. "I've been a fan of the programme for a long time and I was looking forward to seeing Port Isaac, but I never expected to see the man himself, let alone speak to him and get the picture to prove it." Mr and Mrs Elwin had been staying at Orchard Lodge in Boscastle when they made the scene-spotting trip. B&B owner Shelley Barratt said: "We get a lot of guests who want to see where the programme is made, but it's the first time any of them has managed to get on set and meet the main character. Both Mr and Mrs Elwin were absolutely delighted and I think it shows what a nice chap Martin Clunes is, he really made the couple's day." Back home, the Elwin's are now looking forward to the new Doc Martin series when they hope to pick out their scene-stealing moment.
