LARGE blocks of cliff have tumbled onto Duckpool beach on the Kilkhampton side.

The back of the beach has changed considerably and revealed interesting volcanic contortions of a bygone era, and not experienced there in living memory. A local informant says this began in February 2021. On Monday, May 10, a new fall from the highest point that side of the beach has developed into a large heap approximately 30 metres high. The land there belongs to the National Trust and the existing coast path is threatened. The excessive wet winter followed by an unusually dry spring must have affected the stability of the rock.

Following the cliff fall, Bude RNLI Lifeguards said: “Another big cliff fall at Duckpool this week. Never sit under or climb on the cliffs.”

Referencing the photographs taken by the team, the spokesperson said: “You can really see how much has fallen in just over one month. In any coastal emergency call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
