WITH the arrival of spring comes the opportunity for walkers and cyclists to get out and about and a team of volunteers has been making the effort to clear a path for them.

During March, a team of volunteers in Holsworthy worked on Derriton Viaduct and much of the cycle path beyond towards Lamb’s Lane.

The team consisted of Jill and Barry Reeve, Tony Wade and Malcolm Buckingham. Also helping but not pictured were Liz Buckingham, Mary Elston and Tony Piner.

They responded to an appeal by Tony in the Post in December for help in clearing local pathways of vegetation, lopping off branches and maintaining the signage.

Tony, from Holsworthy, is a keen cyclist and following a chance meeting with Sustrans North Devon group coordinator, Chris Vincen, he became a volunteer.

As a Sustrans volunteer, and a strong believer in sustainability, Tony’s job is to raise awareness of the cycle path.

He said: “This path is part of Sustrans National Cycle Network, Route 3, and is much used locally by both cyclists and walkers.

“We hope to finish the work soon but there is always more to be done and anyone wishing to help out in future please contact me at [email protected]
