CLAWTON YFC tackled the hills of Cornwall for The Farming Community Network (FCN) last week — crossing the finish line at the Holsworthy and Stratton Show.

Commencing from Land’s End on Wednesday, August 24, six members set off on the first of two days with a 64 mile cycle.

The members were: Beth Wonnacott, Gareth Hutchings, George Mitchell, Owen Martyn, Roxi Smith and Sam Merchant, who left the comfortable seats of the car to their padded shorts and cycling seats.

With quite warm weather the journey went well with only one puncture. This saw them travelling at a great speed.

They completed their 104 mile journey setting off early on the Thursday, August 25, from Bodmin to head for the Holsworthy and Stratton Show main ring.

The members had regular training sessions, but with 15 miles being the most that many of them had done in any cycle this journey certainly was a challenge.

The team were extremely thankful to the support from White Horse Motors with the use of a support vehicle, Holsworthy and Stratton Show for allowing them to finish in the main ring, Ashwater Signs enabling them to let all know what we were doing with their donation of our banner and BK Disco for their support with their clothing.

A spokesperson said: “At present we have confirmed just over £900 for one of our clubs’ chosen charity, but we are still collecting.”

There is still time to donate. To support the Clawton YFC’s fundraising cycle visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/clawtonyfc-cycle
