THE visit of the JSLN Dance Company to Holsworthy’s HATS theatre on Sunday, June 12, will offer a rare opportunity to see professional ballet in the Post area, writes Christine Williams.
Under the title ‘Variations of Pointe’ they will present a triple bill with something for everyone.
Their programme begins with Fokine’s ‘Petrushka’, a colourful and entertaining classical ballet to the music of Stravinsky.
The story is set inside a magical puppet workshop where the marionettes come to life and is a dramatic tale of love and jealousy between a beautiful ballerina doll and her admirers.
Their second piece is an adaptation of the popular sitcom Allo Allo, translated into dance and features the antics of René Artois and his friends working to thwart Herr Flick and his compatriots.
They end with an elegant and athletic neo-classical piece, choreographed to the music of Vivaldi by their artistic director, under the title ‘Transitions of (I)dentity’.
It was a great success for JSLN at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and promises to be a feast for the senses.
The company was founded in Berlin in 2012 and is committed to bringing world-class dance to smaller venues in locations where dance is not often seen.
Their programme is very much designed to bring new audiences to ballet, including those who may not have been interested previously.
The show begins at 7.30pm and the tickets are £12 with £10 concessions.
They will be available through Ticketsource: www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/FHELDD and also at the door on the day of the performance.
