THE proceeds of a successful Motor and Classic Show in May have been presented by Bude Motor Club to the town's memory café — its chosen charity for 2015.
The show, an annual event organised by the club, had almost 400 vehicles on display as well as trade stands, stalls and live music throughout the day. The amount raised totalled £1,833.
Held at Bude Rugby Club, the show is becoming a major event in the town's annual events calendar and is unique in that it welcomes exhibitors to simply turn up on the day, encouraging people who would not normally show their vehicle to experience being part of a show.
It also does not charge an entry fee — the money raised for the charity is done so by voluntary collection buckets and the amount this year is the biggest so far raised by the club.
Bude Memory Café was started three years ago by a cross-section of volunteers to help Alzheimer's sufferers stimulate their memory by singing, dancing, doing quizzes and other activities such as pottery and crafts and by having day trips out. The café meets twice a month at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude and provides invaluable support for carers of loved ones with Alzheimer's. Apart from a small amount of council funding, the café relies on charity donations and its own fundraising activities.
