SOME members of Bude Motor Club recently took part in an event, which supported a local organisation that helps servicemen suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The fundraising track day at Castle Combe motor circuit near Chippenham on October 15 raised £3,000 for PTSD Resolution.
The charity sends therapists to servicemen and women, both serving and retired, who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder — and the Bude Surf Veterans contribute by teaching them to surf.
The event at Castle Combe was an opportunity for drivers to enjoy the capabilities of their own cars on a well-known motor circuit, under disciplined and supervised conditions. It was not a race.
Cars on track ranged from 1960s classics such as MG Midgets and an Austin Healey 3000 to modern saloons and an Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
Paul Howard from Kilkhampton, who took his Alfa Romeo 156, said: “This was my second Bude Motor Club track day and was even better than the first. Good discipline is enforced, so the driving is very safe.
“We all had a lot of fun and raised funds which will help both Bude Surf Veterans and other groups.”
Carol Harper, one of the PTSD therapists, said: “I did not know what to expect but PTSD clients had told me about the day and I had a wonderful time taking fast passenger rides in different cars.”
The day was made possible by the generous support of Castle Combe management and also raised funds for the North Wiltshire branch of SSAFA.
It is intended to repeat the event in 2016, possibly in March. Those interested should contact Christopher Darwin by emailing [email protected] or calling 01288 381265.
