FOR anyone over the age of 60 living in Holsworthy there are new ‘Forever Fitness’ classes available every Monday from 2pm to 3.15pm at the Scout Hut, to help people keep moving and socialise.

Age UK Devon, Active Devon and Fusion Fitness have teamed up to offer the programme to ensure the older generation are able to remain actively engaged with their communities as well as physically active.

David Herman of Fusion Fitness, who is also the owner and director of a gym in Bude, said: “There will be some ‘huff and puff’ involved regardless of fitness levels, with the support needed to make this an enjoyable and beneficial session for all. The job is to work appropriately with exercises, which are tailored to the group as a whole.”

Mr Herman is an experienced and highly qualified instructor who works in care homes and memory cafés in order to deliver group and personal training sessions.

The three organising bodies want to ensure that these sessions offer older people in Holsworthy the chance to actively engage with their local community and Forever Fitness is aimed at being more than just a way to keep fit but a social opportunity too.

Tom Mack, from Active Devon, said: “The importance of a cup of tea and a friendly chat can never be underestimated. Our message to older people is to keep moving and Forever Fitness is an ideal way to get fit as a couple or as a group of friends. This combined with ten minutes here and there of other activities like gardening or walking can have a profound effect on long term health.”

It is hoped that attendees to these sessions will encourage and motivate each other, with post work out refreshments also provided and a chance to get to know each other.

It costs £3 per session, which includes refreshments. All over 60s welcome.
