BUDE entered this match knowing that a win would bring them within touching distance of the Division Two title, but having defeated the Titans team 47 -25 in their last meeting Bude guessed the they would call on their more experienced players from their higher teams and they were not disappointed in what turned out to be a an epic 'clash of the Titans!'
The Jets started the first quarter with a new look defence who held their own, with Kirsty Dawe, Vicky Innes and Sharon Box fighting hard against some very skilled shooters they kept it very close 10-11.
In the second quarter the Jets attack of Carrie Short, Helen Newton, Kelly Swatton and Steph Cook utilised the strong defence and upped their game to go in at half time leading 19-16.
The third quarter began with the Jets playing good netball but the Titans had made some tactical changes to their attack which began to pay dividends. The Jets continued to work hard and once they had adjusted to the changes they managed to keep a lid on the Titans scoring and kept the score even at 28 a piece.
Titans came out in the fourth quarter with an air of confidence and asserted their authority taking an early 4 goal lead and in such a tight game all looked lost for the Jets and a crash landing looked imminent.
The Jets had not read the script though and began to pull together with great team work and spirit they showed why they are serious contenders for the title. They managed to claw back the deficit and with only ten seconds remaining they thought they had done enough but aghast they were under a late siege from the Titans who had worked the ball smartly to their shooter who drew aim and just before the ball left her hand the final whistle went meaning that it ended as a draw.
With both teams frustrated but exhausted having given everything the Jets left the happier knowing that if they win their final two games the fairytale will still end happily with them being crowned champions.
