JESS Shirley scored one, her first of the season, and played a part in the other four goals as Launceston made it through to the Cornwall County Cup Final where they will play Saltash on April 19, writes Liam Dart.
Launceston, playing up the slope at Liskeard, took the game to St Breward and Lucy Bounsall shot just over after being played in by Louisa Crick in the opening seconds. Neat play by Fiona Stevenson, Bounsall and Haines allowed Shirley to volley home from 20 yards on five minutes. Two minutes later the lead was doubled, Haines got free in the box and she guided her shot into the corner.
Ria Tilley and Kelly Henderson combined down the right and crossed but Haines shot wide. Stevenson, Bounsall both went close before the goal of the game when Sharon Medland played to Vicky Pett, who passed to Bounsall, a quick one-two between Stevenson and Shirley, then Shirley and Crick, before Shirley fed Crick again to smash home from 12 yards on 15 minutes.
Launceston continued to play neat passing football. St Breward came into the game, and well, a sort of slide tackle/roly poly/fall from Pett stopped them from scoring. A series of corners followed, Julie O'Keefe pulled off a fine save and Sarah Guymer cleared. Launceston could have increased their lead further but Stevenson, Haines and Crick failed to hit the target. Pett went off injured Amy Hooper replaced her.
The second half Launceston continued the same as the first. Shirley inspirational in every move and she linked with Haines who played to Crick but the 'keeper made a fine save when one v one. Haines on 50 minutes did increase Launceston's lead direct from a corner and proceeded to celebrate in her own unique way.
Haines and Crick were replaced by Ali Tilley and Margaret Brimacombe up front; and it was the two of them that combined for A Tilley to score the fifth, also her fifth of the season, a strong run and cross by Brimacombe which Ali placed in the net.
Further chances came for Brimacombe (3) but she was a little wayward, and for Stevenson, Bounsall and R Tilley but none could find the target. St Breward never stopped fighting and battling, Launceston played some great football and showed strong team spirit from start to finish from the very cold O'Keefe all the way through the side to Louise Dart and Chelle Bowden.
