APART from the opening ten minutes when both teams were working off the Christmas turkey this Bristol Soccerworld Cup second round tie was dominated by Launceston.
After one game in three months the Clarets showed no rustiness in their passing, movement and quality in front of goal. The back three of Amy Hooper, Sarah Guymer and Chelle 'rugby player' Bowden dealt with any Torpoint attack with Nicola Pike in goal dealing easily with anything that did come through.
On 15 minutes Launceston took the lead through a fine strike from Julie O'keefe from 12 yards following neat inter-play between Lucy Bounsall, Vicky Pett, and Louisa Crick. Moments later Jill Haines went close as did Jess Shirley, and Bounsall to increasing the lead.
The second goal came on 25 minutes, a quick throw-in from Fiona Stevenson was laid to Pett and from 35 yards she lofted the ball towards the six yard box it bounced up and over Louise Galway in the Torpoint goal and into the net.
The third soon followed a slick passing moving resulted in a Haynes shot and from the resulting corner Guymer bundled the ball home.
The fourth arrived on 35 minutes and it was a team goal finished in expert fashion by Stevenson, it involved Pike throwing out to Stevenson, then passing between Shirley, O'keefe, Crick, Bounsall, Haynes, and then Stevenson again who controlled the ball 20 yards out before placing the ball in the bottom corner.
The fifth came just before the break, neat play between Stevenson, Haines and Pett resulting in Bounsall smashing home from close range.
The second half was a more subdued affair with Launceston keeping the ball for long periods but a lack of concentration at the back led to Anna Hugill grabbing a consolation goal. Torpoint could have added to their tally but Pike made a smart save when 1v1 and another from a shot from distance.
Launceston created further chances with subs Margaret Brimacombe and Kelly Henderson going close. Haynes eventually scored on 65 minutes, Ria Tilley playing in Haynes to chip Galway. Henderson then had a shot cleared off the line, Hooper had a chance but it went a little wayward!
All in all it was a good performance and a great game to watch. Next week Launceston are away to Plymouth Argyle in the Pat Sowden Trophy, Sharon Medland returns Rebecca Chidley is available again, but Jess Shirley is unavailable and O'keefe is doubtful.
