MANY people join the ‘Cider and Pasty Walk’ held recently to raise funds for Bradford Pre-School and Bridgerule Early Years.

They also raised funds for ‘Trees for Life’ a charity that was close to the heart of the schools’ much loved chairperson Sarah Forsyth, who died in May of this year.

The charity, Trees for Life, has been working to restore Scotland’s ancient Caledonian Forest and the money donated to them from the Cider and Pasty Walk will go towards this vital work.

Edwina Williams, administrator at Bradford Pre-school and Bridgerule Early Years, said: “We raised about £500 on the day, which is excellent. £100 of this will go to Trees for Life, a charity that replants trees for sustainability purposes.

“We had a very good turn out this year and the weather was perfect as it wasn’t too hot for our walk. There were a lot of children who joined in this year, including ones from the pre-schools, teens and adults.”

There were pasties on offer for those who joined in along with refreshing glasses of cider, with apple juice and ‘mini-pasties’ available for the younger ones.

Funds were raised from entry charges and other events including a raffle, name the teddy and a ‘Pony Poop’ challenge.

Ms Williams said: “We offered some extra activities after the walk so that the younger children didn’t get bored. There were things like a raffle, cake stalls, a tombola, name the teddy competition and the most intriguing of all the ‘pony poop’ challenge.

“Basically the lady who hosted the event on her land has a Shetland Pony. She marked out a pen and then people were able to buy a grid of the area for £1 and mark on it where they thought the pony was going to poop!

“It was great fun and certainly something different and quirky from previous years.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the event and to Nicola Beer and her husband Dave who allowed us to hold the event on their land. It was a brilliant day and everyone had fun.”
