DUE to the generosity of its members Holsworthy Methodist Church was splendidly decorated on September 30 for the harvest festival services, writes Christine Williams.

The preacher at the morning service was Mr Mark Shepherd. Celebrations continued in the evening with a concert by Burraton and Newton St Petrock Male Voice Choirs, which was attended by a large and appreciative congregation. The choirs sang some items individually and others together. Phil Taylor and Paul Fry, the conductor and pianist from Burraton, performed a piano and organ duet and the congregation enthusiastically joined in the singing of three harvest hymns. At the end of the concert the choirs joined together in the singing of the moving song ‘I watch the sunrise’ and ‘Rachie’, a Welsh hymn tune.

Mr Martyn Squire, Holsworthy’s organist, thanked the choirs, Mr Peter Parsons, the chairman for the evening, and everyone who attended for their support of the chapel refurbishment project.

Supper was then provided and served to the choirs in the Manor Suite by the ladies of the chapel. Donated dried and tinned goods will be sent to the food bank.
