A YEAR long restoration for St Julitta’s Church, Lanteglos by Camelford, has come to an end at last and is now open for services and events.

There were major problems with medieval rotten roof rafters and a decayed beam only just managing to support the tower roof.

In spite of these setbacks, some really interesting discoveries were made and these were on display at the open day on Saturday, November 30 from 11am to 4pm.

The concert to celebrate the re-opening of the church was one of those very special and unforgettable moments. Mike Silver and his wife Julie from Camelford have performed at Lanteglos Church before, and on this occasion they were joined by Jo Partridge who has been described as a ‘mega-guitarist’.

He has worked with an amazing list of international stars including Joan Armatrading, Elton John, Phil Collins, The Who, Kiki Dee, Leo Sayer, David Essex, Roger Daltrey and the London Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.

This candle lit celebratory concert was performed by Cornish musicians and composers at their very best and the new lighting and heating was particularly appreciated on a cold and wet evening.

Yet to come, as part of the updating and improvement scheme is a new kitchen and an accessible toilet. The £600,000 project has been funded by a major grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund with support from the Cornwall Historic Churches Trust and other grant funders together with generous individual donations.
