ST JULITTA’S Church near Camelford was the centre of attention over the weekend as BBC film crews shot some footage of the restoration work being undertaken on the site.
John Pearce from the Friends of Lanteglos Church reported that the BBC had paid a visit to St Julitta’s to hear about the restoration work and the historical artefacts discovered at the site. Crews heard that experts have deemed the church ‘especially significant at a national level’ due to its age, which is earlier than first thought.
John said: “It has an importance that is more than might be expected for a church that is a mile outside Camelford.
“The reporter, Christine Butler, really liked the church and its setting. The BBC plans to show the film towards the end of the week on BBC Spotlight. Watch this space!”
Coverage is hoped to boost the friends’ fundraising efforts in raising £50,000 to help repair the ancient rafters, which have suffered severe rot.
John added: “But this will secure our most important historic building for generations to come. We are setting up a crowdfunding appeal in the next few days.”
