THE seventh annual Poundstock Big Breakfast took place on Wednesday, August 17 to raise money for St Winwaloe’s Church in the village.

Held at the village’s gildhouse from 9am-1.30pm, a traditional Cornish breakfast, along with an alternative vegetarian option, was served.

The local vicar, Tony Windross, was present along with his family as just under £550 was raised.

Organiser of the day, Graham Jones, was delighted with the turnout as well as the camaraderie shown between everyone who visited.

Graham said: “We had just over 100 people come, including holidaymakers, locals and people from nearby which is an excellent effort.

“Not only was the turnout really good, I think the best part of the day was the fact that everyone had a really good time, talking to each other, many of whom had probably never met before while enjoying the food.”

Priced at £6.50 per person, which included the breakfast as well as extras such as tea and coffee, fruit juice and toast, people visited the gildhouse across the four and a half hours, as Jones explains.

Graham said: “We served a typical Cornish breakfast that includes sausages, bacon, egg, hash browns, beans and tomato while the vegetarian option was the same minus the sausages and bacon.

“People came throughout the morning. There were quite a few early birds who came in just after nine, and although there was a bit of a lull throughout the rest of the morning, lots of people came in at around midday which was the busiest time.”

In total there were eight helpers, who continued to cook throughout the day, ensuring that everyone was fed. Thanks were expressed by Graham and the team to all those who made the event a success, which they hope to run again next year.
