CHILDREN’S Hospice South West (CHSW) has won £26,400 through the People’s Projects competition.
The competition is run by ITV and the Big Lottery, which distributes National Lottery funding across good causes in the country.
There were five projects in the ITV Westcountry region, which were all looking for votes to win the funding and CHSW, along with two other projects, was successful.
The funding that the children’s charity won will pay for its project ‘Time To Play’, bringing more activities to life limited children and their siblings who are supported through CHSW at Little Harbour in St Austell as well as Little Bridge House in Barnstaple. The prize money will help the hospice provide activities such as treasure hunts, storytelling, music therapy and days out, as well as activities for teenagers and those experiencing bereavement.
Cath Collier, CHSW trusts and grants fundraiser, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this funding and to have the public back our project, it is so important for the children that we look after to have fun and enjoy simply playing and not always have to worry about the medical aspect of their care or the care of their siblings. Thank you to everyone who voted for Time to Play, it really will make a huge difference.”
Through its three hospices in the South West CHSW supports more than 400 life limited children and their families, allowing them time at the hospices to rest, enjoy special family time together and make precious memories.
