THE Devon British Driving Society held a festive themed ‘Christmas Charity Road Drive’ from Holsworthy Cattle Market at the weekend, with proceeds from the event being donated to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
The Christmas Charity Road Drive raised £230 for CHSW.
Heading off at noon 10 turnouts, many of whom came in fancy dress, set off from the Holsworthy Cattle Market, courtesy of Kivells, and brought a smile to passers by as they proceeded along their chosen route.
One of the drivers, Iris Fry of Thornbury told the Post: “Yesterday at our Christmas Charity Road Drive, we had 10 turnouts from Looe and Liskeard in Cornwall, Burrington, Beaworthy, Buckland Brewer as well as the Holsworthy area.
“It was lovely to see people at the end of their lanes to watch us. We are always grateful to our stewards who man the busy crossings and Rodney Parrish who takes beautiful photos of us all.
“It was great to come back to the Market Café where Linda and her chef did us hot drinks and chip meals to order, at the end of the day we had raised £230 for Children’s Hospice South West.”
On the day Iris was accompanied by her grand daughters Chloe and Megan. She said: “I have been driving and a member of the British Driving Society for about 12 years. It is lovely to know that my granddaughters Chloe and Megan have an interest in the ponies and enjoy grooming for me.”
She added: “The society is split into areas to be run by an area commissioner, but members are welcome to take part in organised drives and events anywhere in the country.”
