This coming Sunday, the Griffon Choir will be performing at St Mary's Church, Tenby, at 8 pm, to raise money for The Friends of the Community. At that performance, guest soloist will be Melanie Walker, a recently retired percussion tutor with the Pembrokeshire Music Service.
Melanie is originally from Warwickshire. She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music before having a career as a freelance percussionist with with, amongst others, the Halle, English National Ballet, Northern Ballet and the BBC Philharmonic and Scottish symphony orchestras.
She went into education in 1990 and, after tutoring at the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Junior Department, moved to St. Florence in 2000 and until last year was percussion tutor for the Pembrokeshire Music Service.
She is now enjoying grandchildren, caravanning and digging her allotment and, of course, performing with the Griffon Choir.
On Sunday, Melanie will be playing the marimba as the choir's guest soloist when they give their concert in St Mary's Church. Admission is £7 at the door (children free).
