CHILDREN’S Hospice South West was chosen as the charity to benefit from a truly magnificent joint choir concert in Launceston Central Church on Friday last, with Keith Roberts, compere for the evening.
Some 25 members of the St Joseph’s School Chamber Choir and the Canzonetta, under their musical director Lis Mann, together with over 40 members of Launceston Male Voice Choir, directed by Jonathan Mann, performed a very varied programme of both traditional and modern choral pieces to a very enthusiastic audience. With only a very limited time for one short joint rehearsal before the event, the end result was judged to be a great success.
Both choirs sang individual items from their own repertoires, but they also joined together to sing the very moving ‘Let there be Peace on Earth’, and again in the finale — Morte Christe — accompanied by Jonathan Mann on the organ.
This was the third joint concert when both choirs have performed together and despite the difference in age, with the youngest chorister only 11 and the eldest over 90, it proved to be a most enjoyable occasion for all, and the Children’s Hospice will benefit from a donation of almost £600 from the evening.
