EACH year Holsworthy and District Lions hold their children’s Christmas party and this year’s, held on Sunday, was said to be ‘the highlight of the Lions’ year’.

One hundred and sixty-two guests paid £1 each to take part in the festive fun in the Memorial Hall in Holsworthy.

The party featured a disco from Lions members and professional DJ, Andy King, magic tricks and entertainment from ‘Mr Wacky’, as well as more traditional party games such as ‘pass the parcel’.

Fizzy drinks and ice-cream were free for the children and adults —with one youngster setting a new record for eating eight ice-creams in the space of three hours.

The afternoon finished with a visit from a special guest all the way from the North Pole — so all the children left with a present at the end of the day.

Former Lions’ president Ray Fursdon said: “Along with fun day, this really is one of the highlights of the Lions’ year.

“To see the smiles and laughter on the kids’ faces is great — it really is what being a member of the Lions Club is all about.”

Ray also thanked the wives, partners, children and daughter-in-laws of all the Lions who turned out to help on the day — and a special thanks to the volunteers from Holsworthy Youth Club who gave up their time to make it such an enjoyable afternoon.
