PARTS of ‘Mervin the Monster’ were scattered throughout Launceston on from October 23 to 25 and it was up to the children to help put him back together.
The Launceston’s Build a Monster event was held as a joint initiative between Launceston’s library, chamber of commerce and The Launceston Scrapstore. The pieces of Mervin the Monster, which fit together like a jigsaw, were supplied by DS Smith, Launceston.
Starting off at M4KE/The Launceston Scrapstore on Race Hill participants were encourage to visit all the local shops in the highlighted areas on the trail map and whisper the secret words — ‘trick or treat’ — to discover if they were concealing a piece of Mervin.
When the children reached the end of the trail they were able to put the pieces of Mervin they had collected together and decorate him using the arts and crafts available.
There were special prizes for the best decorated Mervin and the best fancy dress, with results being announced on Hallowe’en [today].
The Launceston’s Build a Monster event was such a success that, thanks to DS Smith, a further 100 spaces were made available on Friday, October 25.
