THE Fun Palace event at Launceston Library was a celebration of science, art and creativity inspired by John Couch Adams — a ‘local hero’ who co-discovered Neptune — and his contribution to astronomy.

The library was thrilled to see so many people joining in to discover and create. While some children decorated biscuits with Shelley Vanstone from Tesco, others were upstairs building LEGO models along the same science theme. Rockets and space stations stand proudly in the middle of the library for the month until the ‘Star Wars’ Lego event on December 4.

Visitors also had the chance to paint, draw and make crazy balloons that looked like planets from the new Library ‘ArtBox’ .This is a community collection of art materials for everyone to use during events or when groups drop in.

The core slogan of the Fun Palace events is that ‘everyone is an artist and everyone a scientist’. The library hopes people will continue to donate to its ArtBox, and that it will be used regularly to explore and discover!

There was an additional art drop in event with artist Karen Howse for visitors to the library to try new techniques and materials. There was a free Shallal Sketch book to collect on the day to work in to start your own art journey.
