CHEQUES were presented to Lewannick Parish Council and Lewannick church from a community fund on Tuesday, April 15.
When a wind turbine became operational at Blackaton Farm, Lewannick, a community fund was set up whereby annually amounts are allocated from the turbine to a fund for which local worthy causes and community groups can apply for grants.
Recipients of the first payments were the church and the parish council. The church received a cheque for £3,750 and the parish council received a cheque for £3,785.
The church is to use the funding to assist with their plans to create a much needed toilet facility at the church and the parish council intends to distribute its fund to other local groups that have applied to them.
In its first full year of operation the amount of clean electricity produced by the turbine was equivalent to that used annually by around 470 average homes, a similar number of addresses that are registered in Lewannick, Polyphant and Trevadlock.
