FUNDS raised from the recent WWI day held in Stanhope Park, Holsworthy, were donated to representatives of SSAFA and Help for Heroes at the meeting of full council on Wednesday, November 7.

The total amount raised from the ‘Holsworthy Remembers WW1100 Years — in Memory of the Fallen and the Future of the Living’ event has been split between the two charities and cheques for £579.26 each were presented by mayor Cllr Jon Hutchings.

SSAFA representative Roger Lawes said: “We are most pleased to have been presented with this money. You may be unaware but this money will be spent on places in this area so thank you!”

Mark Humphreys from Help for Heroes said: “We had a fantastic day at the event and a lot of people are still talking about it.

“The same as SSAFA, the money will be spent right here. You may think the money goes to London but you’ve got a lot of young veterans here who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq etc. that are suffering and this money will go to them.”
