THERE were celebrations at the Bullers Arms in Marhamchurch at the weekend when the pub reopened after being closed for more than a year.

James Caslake, associate partner to Kivells and whose family farms near Stratton, bought the pub in December, with partner Nikki Unger, of Marhamchurch.

The Bullers was packed with wellwishers on Sunday, who witnessed the first pint being pulled by former landlord Bill Kneebone.

Bill, who owned the well-known pub from 1970 to 1987, paid special tribute to the people of Marhamchurch, the parish council and the Marhamchurch Conservation Group for their tenacity and determination in opposing plans to demolish the function suite and the hotel and erect houses in the car park.
