ASSEMBLIES at Sir James Smith’s Community School, Camelford, were taken recently by Year 11 student, Charlotte Penny, who is a Lance Corporal in the Army Cadets, Launceston branch.

Charlotte is due to take her GCSEs in the coming months. She dressed in uniform for the assemblies, given to students from Year 7 to Year 10.

Charlotte stressed to pupils the range of benefits gained from joining the cadets, including the opportunities to meet new people, participate in camping expeditions and sporting occasions, and take a number of qualifications.

She also underlined how joining the cadets, two years ago, had helped boost her confidence, and given extra depth to her CV when going for interviews.

Her presentation won plaudits from teachers, and was noted by Ofsted inspectors who also watched her during one of the assemblies.
