A CHARITY ‘tractor run’ was held on Sunday, January 7, at East Youldon Farm, Chilsworthy, in memory of a young girl who sadly passed away a year ago.

The event raised more than £8,000.

Chloe Martyn, daughter of Caroline Prouse and Gary Martyn and brother to Samuel, passed away on January 15, 2017 from a brain stem tumour. Her family decided to organise the tractor run in her memory and that any money raised from the event would go to The Brain Tumour Charity and CLIC Sargent.

At 9.30am over 150 tractors and 300 people met at East Youldon Farm ahead of a 31-mile round trip. Those taking part had travelled from far and wide to join the fundraising event — with some coming from as far away as Milton Abbot, Okehampton and Winkleigh to Bideford.

The tractors and their drivers set off at around 10.30am and travelled via Brimford Bridge, Welcombe Cross, Welcombe Mouth, Elmscott, Stowford Cross and then back to East Youldon for a well deserved two-course lunch and a prize draw.

Caroline said: “The event was a great success due to the well organised marshalling and great consideration of all the tractor drivers and the general public. The weather was perfect and enjoyed by all.”

The event raised £8,181.12, which will be split equally between the two charities. Donations are still being received and a JustGiving page is still running.

Gary, Caroline and Samuel expressed their thanks to all family, friends, helpers and local businesses who donated their time, food, money, equipment and draw prizes to make the event such a success.
