THE British Heart Foundation shop in Launceston is hoping to reunite a letter, exchanged between two sweethearts in the 1950s, with its owner.
Tamara Chapman, manager of the British Heart Foundation shop in Launceston town square, put an appeal online after one of her shop volunteers came across an unusual and sentimental discovery — a letter penned to a Jacqueline on October 10, 1953, from what is thought to have been her sweetheart.
The letter reads: “Just a note to say I am very sorry but can’t make it to night as I am on guard. I saw the RSM this – morning but could not get off. But I have only 9 weekends left now so it is not to bad. Once I get out of this lot I’ll make sure I see you every weekend and a few times in the week to make up for this.
“Well so much for that. I’ll be thinking of you tonight when I am on guard. I’ll miss you a lot but I’ll see you tomorrow night (Sunday) between 7 and 7.30. I’ll be coming on motorbike.”
The person who penned the note signs it off as, what looks like ‘Jacks’. In the top right corner, a Bude address is written (pictured).
Tamara and her team of volunteers are now hoping to reunite the love letter to its original owner, or the family of the owner, as it could be a precious item to someone, somewhere.
She said: “We just want to reunite it with its owner! It’s very unusual that we get such sentimental items in, but of course we want it to be returned to the correct family if possible. It was in the bottom of a bag and luckily one of my amazing volunteers found it.”
Anyone who has any information about the letter, or who can help reunite the precious note with its owner, should contact Tamara at the shop.
She added: “We are open seven days a week or the shop number is 01566 778 855. We close at 5pm but myself or my staff will be more than happy to help if we can, from 9am until 5pm.”
