A CHARITY motor show was held in the garden of Steve and Diane Bassett in North Petherwin on Sunday, July 25, to raise money for the Brain Tumour Support Group (BTSG).
Held in perfect weather from 1pm to 5pm, nearly 200 people flocked to the village outside of Launceston to view the 33 cars and seven motorbikes.
The charity is of particular importance to the family as Steve is currently battling brain tumours. He told the Post: “We have been members of the SW Cobra Car Club for several years and because there hadn’t been any local car shows for almost two years and because my family and I have benefited so much from the support given by this wonderful charity, we decided to hold a car and bike show to raise money for Brain Tumour Support Group.
“I’ve had two brain tumours removed and three separate doses of stereotactic radiation, and I’ve still got tumours in there that need to be regularly checked. I’m still an active user of the Brain Tumour Support Group and they offer families and the people who suffer, wonderful support.”
They also received wonderful support from the dozens who came to their garden. Steve said: “It went absolutely fantastically. We had 33 cars and seven motorbikes, and we reckon we had about 200 people there, raising £2,675.
“It was a great day in great weather. We’ve received some lovely emails from people who brought their cars along and from Brain Tumour Support Group, thanking us. It was the first charity event for BTSG since the beginning of the pandemic.”
There were all sorts of cars for the visitors to enjoy.
Steve added: “We had a high-performance Ferrari and Porsche, an old Austin A30, original minis, mustangs, cobras, a Daimler, Volvo, Mitsubishi Evo, a Subaru, a MX-5, our very own BMW Z4, a Mercedes MG and a MG Magnette, amongst other things. My wife and her friends also made a superb cream tea for everyone.”
Steve offered his appreciation for anyone involved. He said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along and supported us, as well as the several local organisations and companies that supported us, either by donations, loan of equipment or raffle prizes.
“Also a huge thank you to all the helpers before, during and after the event, without whom we couldn’t have done it. Thank you also to everyone for leaving the field and our garden litter free and as you found it and to the young lads who came along for their good behaviour and wonderful enthusiasm.”
