VOLUNTEERS from the Launceston Fundraising Group for Marie Curie Cancer Care held their first annual general meeting at the end of last month.

Volunteers celebrated their first year, having raised £5,000 for the charity.

During the first year of office, volunteers have co-ordinated the Great Daffodil Appeal in the area helping make this the best appeal yet. There was a record number of collectors on the streets throughout February and March and the national appeal has raised £7- million. This will fund 14,000 days of free nursing care.

Fund-raising in the Launceston area was started some 20 years ago by loyal supporters Hazel Tresidder, Ivor Nicholls and Terry Bartlett. During this period lots of volunteers have given their time to help raise monies to fund the local Marie Curie Nursing Service.
