A FOURTEEN-year-old boy is to cycle around 30 miles from Barnstaple to Holsworthy to raise money for a charity that is helping his grandfather.

Harrison Palmer, of Petrockstowe, is a keen cyclist, regularly riding on the nearby Tarka Trail.

His grandfather, Chris Axford, of Holsworthy, suffers from hereditary lung condition emphysema, due to alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency.

Harrison decided he wanted to support his grandfather by raising money for the British Lung Foundation, and will be doing the sponsored cycle ride on Mr Axford's 64th birthday, Monday, April 21.

Mr Axford said: "Things are quite difficult for me, and the grandchildren have to live around it. Harrison sprang his idea on me on Christmas Day by giving me three gifts: A Lung Association T-shirt, a poster of his sponsored cycle, and sponsor forms. It really touched me."
