AT A coffee morning in Holsworthy’s Memorial Hall on Wednesday, September 26, Maureen Lillicrop of Derriton, a mother of four and grandmother of nine, had her hair shaved off in aid of two charities close to her heart, writes Christine Williams.

Wendy Sillifant, a hairdrsser at Llewellyn’s salon in Holsworthy did the honours.

Maureen explained the reasoning behind her headshave. She said, following an MRI scan, her 28-year-old grandson Robert, who lives in Norfolk, had been diagnosed with a grade-3 brain tumour and in January had an operation at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

Robert has two young children and he and his partner Sinein plan to marry in May.

Maureen said: “My daughter Nancy, Robert’s mother, has been making and selling tote bags to raise money so I felt I must do something.”

So far she has raised £132 for the brain tumour research department at Addenbrookes and £150 for North Devon Hospice’s Long House in Holsworthy.
