STRATTON and District Young Farmers’ Club held their 78th annual meeting in Week St Mary Village Hall.

The event was well attended and chaired by Jenny Richardson on behalf of outgoing president Archie Heard.

Stratton Young Farmers have enjoyed a successful active year under the chairmanship of Jessica Pollard, who was congratulated for successfully qualifying as a veterinary nurse as well as getting married and looking after her young family while in office.

The club was well represented at both Royal Cornwall Show and Holsworthy and Stratton Agricultural Show, resulting in strong competition for the cups and trophies awarded at the meeting.

The fundraising highlight of the year was the foam party in August, when the popular Dev from Radio 1 was the guest DJ. Newly elected president, Joe Grigg, commended the club for their ambitious vision and congratulated them on their success.

As a direct result, the club presented cheques totalling £5,000 to their nominated causes, FLEET and Marhamchurch Parish Council to install a defibrillator in the village, to Children’s Hospice South West and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Thanks were given to retiring club officers.

Newly elected chairman Robert Bluett concluded the evening, saying: “Stratton Young Farmers’ Club is for young people aged 16 to 26 and you don’t have to be a farmer to be a young farmer. It is about having fun and socialising whilst learning new skills.”
