TWO women from Launceston held a family fun day recently, raising money for two vital charities.
Sarah Stewart and Stephanie Perkins hosted a family fun day at Launceston Town Hall on August 18, raising funds for two charities close to their hearts — the Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Keep Me Close appeal for the neonatal units at Derriford Hospital.
Sarah chose to fundraise for Cornwall Air Ambulance because she feels it is a service that is vital to the county — particularly in rural communities.
“I felt that the Cornwall Air Ambulance was a worthy cause to fundraise for as it is a charity that helps and affects hundreds of people in Cornwall every week. I honestly don’t think that we, as a rural county, would survive without their services.”
Sarah works in Liskeard and often hears sirens bellowing past her office every day, with the emergency services attending yet another incident.
Steph has also been fundraising for an important cause — the Keep Me Close appeal for Derriford Hospital’s neonatal clinics, which is trying to provide accommodation for the parents and families of premature and poorly babies, so that they can stay close during recovery.
As a mum of three, Steph knows just how important it would be if any of her own babies became so poorly that she would need accommodation, so is trying to help the cause as much as she can. Steph’s first child was poorly at birth, but thankfully they only stayed five days on the ward.
The family fun day featured lots of fun activities for everyone to take part in — with a bouncy castle included, of course, along with food and refreshments, glitter face art, a variety of third party stalls and a £100 prize raffle.
Sarah and Steph managed to raise £600, and are now embarking on their next challenge — a sponsored skydive on September 30 for the same causes.
