THE Co-op is on the lookout for local charities and good causes in Camelford, Bude, Holsworthy and Launceston to share thousands of pounds generated by its new membership scheme.
Their new schemes awards customers 5% back on the cost of Co-op brand items, they then offer a further 1% that can be given to a local cause.
Members are then able to choose from three local causes or charities that they want to support.
Local Co-op colleagues chose the first causes before the membership scheme was launched in September.
The Co-op is now looking for new local causes from Camelford, Bude, Holsworthy and Launceston for its members to support in the next round of funding, which will begin in May 2017.
Co-op is currently inviting local charitable organisations to apply via its website.
Nick Crofts, president of the Co-op’s national members’ council said: “Co-ops are in existence to support their members and the communities where they live. I know the money raised will provide much needed funding for organisations who contribute so much to improving local life.
“The new scheme is proving extremely popular with our five million members and so we are confident that it will generate thousands for the local charities and good causes chosen and I would encourage Co-op members to spread the word to causes close to their hearts.”
The funding for each cause will be kick-started with a share of the money generated from sales of 5p carrier bags in local stores, plus the profits from the Co-op’s range of reusable bags.
To apply charities need to read the eligibility criteria and complete the online application, which can be found on the website www.coop.co.uk/causes
