CAMELFORD's new mayor for 2015/16 is Cllr Rob Rotchell. He was sworn in at last week's town council meeting.

Cllr Rotchell, who has served as town mayor previously, was the only councillor nominated for the position. He takes over from former mayor, Cllr Andy Shaw.

He thanked Cllr Shaw for the work he has done over the last two years, recalling that Cllr Shaw took over as mayor at a time when the council relocated from College Road and also the council lost its previous town clerk, Marian Sedgewick.

Cllr Rotchell said: "Thank you so much. It was a tough ask and he did it mostly single-handedly."

Cllr Rotchell, who is also Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Camelford, joked that he would not be applying for the manager's job at Camelford Leisure Centre nor would he be going for the chief executive role at Cornwall Council, following the resignation of Andrew Kerr.

There were two nominations for deputy mayor — Cllrs Philip Lassells and Sue Elford.

Following a vote, Cllr Elford was elected as deputy mayor.
