THE 'amazing' work carried out at Dairy Crest's Davidstow Creamery was praised by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne during a visit there last Thursday. He spent two days in Cornwall, visiting a number of businesses. The Chancellor said he hoped to use the experience to help him 'get a better picture of Cornwall'. As part of his tour of the creamery, Mr Osborne took the opportunity to see how the famous Davidstow and Cathedral City cheddars were produced and had a look at ongoing construction work on the premises. The site marks £45-million of investment into the production of demineralised whey powder, the base ingredient for the growing global infant formula market. Mr Osborne said advances being made in the export of products abroad, such as those being undertaken by Dairy Crest, were of great significance to the future of the UK's economy, and paid tribute to the hard work being put in at the Davidstow Creamery.
