LAUNCESTON Chamber of Commerce has confirmed it will hold a ‘This is Launceston’ event in the town hall on Tuesday, November 12.

The event will run from 10am to 4.30pm and it is hoped it may extend to the town square.

Project leader, Tash Baskerville, said: “The event will feature a display in the main hall where exhibitors can man their stands. We hope to have guest speakers talking about Launceston success stories and would love to know if any readers would contact us if they know of any at [email protected].

“We will be running various workshops in the side rooms which will focus on town matters amongst other things. For example we are in talks with Skills Hub and Cornwall Marine Network who may run customer service and marketing workshops for businesses and we will have a ‘Tell us what you think’ session providing a platform for residents and non residents to put forward their ideas and thoughts for the town. We may host any arts groups that may want to present on stage too.

“The concept is similar to a business show, in fact that’s where the idea stemmed from, but a B2B type of event is far too restrictive. We want to showcase Launceston and everything it has to offer; from its history to current affairs, the sole traders to the huge industrial units that export worldwide, its independent shops to chain stores, architecture, eateries, charities, community groups, artists, and everything in between. What we really want to say is look at all of this on our doorstep!”

Tash hopes that the local community will really get behind it.

She said: “We have asked for expressions of interest on Facebook which has been reached by 4,000 people and we will be putting more out soon. Interest has been from local retailers, charities, community groups, and restaurants so far.

“The event is free for Launceston Chamber members to take part and there will be a small fee for a stand for non members.”
