THE third running of Bude Junior Triathlon saw some excellent performances from local young athletes in challenging windy and cold conditions.

The event, based on Summerleaze Downs, saw over 60 young athletes compete in school year groups from Year 4 through to Year 9.

The race starts with a swim in the wonderful Bude Sea Pool, comprising the distance dictated by the individual year groups; Years 4 and 5 swam one length, Years 6 and 7 swam two lengths whilst Years 8 and 9 swam three lengths.

The water at the start of the race looked particularly cold, and although most children were wearing wetsuits, many swam in just their swimming costumes — a brave decision!
