CHALLENGING PERIOD: David Smith was elected as the Mayor of Holsworthy for 2008/09 at a meeting of the town council on Wednesday, May 7. Having served as Deputy Mayor for two years, Cllr Smith has taken over the role from Cllr Elizabeth Squire who had held the position for the past two years. Cllr Becky Buckingham was elected as Deputy Mayor for 2008/09. After reading and signing the 'Declaration of Acceptance of Office' Cllr Smith said: "We're entering a very challenging period in the history of Holsworthy." Referring to the possible re-location of the cattle market, Cllr Smith said: "We have a duty to ensure that if anything happens it's done in the best interests of Holsworthy."
