CALLINGTON’S Portreeve and mayor Mark Smith, was awarded the chain of office for the second consecutive year at the town hall on Tuesday, May 16.
Mr Smith was presented with the chain of office for 2017/18 by Callington’s Honoury Burgess, Jeremy Gist.
Mr Smith’s deputy is Richard Lumley who is a former Portreeve and Mayor of the town.
During the proceedings, former Portreeves and mayors were presented with badges.
They were: Mrs Sheila Tredinnick (Portreeve in 1974/1975); Terry Waters (represented by Mr and Mrs Selleck, Portreeve in 1975/1976); John Trevithick (Portreeve in 1979/80); Roger Screech (Portreeve in 1987/88 and 1st Mayor in 1988/89); Mrs Joyce Lawrence (1st lady to have the full time role of Portreeve and Mayor in 1998/99 and 1990/91); Mrs Denise Winfindale (Portreeve and Mayor in 2005/06, 2007/08 and 2013/14); Andrew Long (Portreeve and Mayor in 2006/07, 2014/15 and 2015/16); Richard Lumley (Portreeve and Mayor in 2008/09 and 2009/10); Mrs Karen Gold (Portreeve and Mayor in 2010/11 and 2011/12); Jeremy Gist (Portreeve and Mayor in 1987/88, 1992/93, 2004/05 and 2012/13).
