METHODS of recycling that are practiced in Cornwall could be introduced in an area of Turkey.

Dignitaries from the Çanakkale Municipality in Turkey were hosted by representatives of SITA UK and visited recycling centres, including the one at Launceston.

Phil Rudin, regional manager at SITA UK, said: "We were delighted to show Mr Ülgür Gökhan, the Mayor of Çanakkale and his associates around some of our recycling and waste management facilities and we hope that they will leave with new ideas that can be introduced into their municipality in the north west of Turkey."

During two days in the latter half of December the delegation from Turkey visited Launceston's household waste and recycling centre, the Bodmin materials recycling facility, which sorts the majority of materials put out for recycling by Cornish residents; the landfill operation at Connon Bridge, near Liskeard and the construction site of the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre.
